Losing Weight On A Vegan Diet

I think a lot of people use the weight loss you will get from going vegan as a reason to go vegan but I have been vegan for a few months now and I haven't lost a pound!

But what has happened is that I have managed to start dropping fat and building muscle easier. I have so much more energy and a much deeper appreciation of life and the food I eat.

That being said, you can be vegan and still be very unhealthy. Crisps, biscuits, chocolate, chips and all that crap are still all vegan (well some brands etc) and if your diet is still going to mainly consist of that then you are never going to lose weight and be healthy. As a vegan, you can still eat cheesy chips every day and a whole pack of bourbon biscuits.

Using veganism to lose weight is like any other diet, it has to be used in conjunction with exercise and you have to eat healthily. When people say you don't have to worry about what you eat when you go vegan, they are usually talking about your health and not having to worry about consuming carcinogenics, antibiotics and high levels of saturated fats.

The formula for losing weight is simple, but it is not quick. FAD diets don't work unless you are prepared to be miserable for the rest of your life. To lose weight and keep it off, you have to change your lifestyle. You have to adapt and change your habits to be eating healthily most of the time, of course you can have cake or biscuits, crisps whatever your vice is once in a while as a treat but you have to exercise.

To lose weight you need to be burning more calories than you are consuming. What FAD diets do is they restrict your calorie intake to make it easier for you to quickly lose weight, if you used to be consuming 3,000 calories a day and then you start only consuming 1,200 and doing 30 minutes of intense exercise a day and burn 500 calories then of course you are going to lose weight, you are now consuming 1,300 calories less than before which is the equivalent to 2 1/2 Lbs a week in weight. But are you going to be able to continue to live off a juice for breakfast, half a tin of soup for lunch and lettuce for dinner? Probably not, all to lose a stone in 6 weeks and gain it all back on once you go back to eating how you used to and not moving anymore.

Lifestyle change is the key to weight loss and going vegan is a whole lifestyle change that can help but is not the answer to weight loss and should not be promoted as a diet.
